Now that the summer has drawn to a close and fall is well underway, it’s important for prudent RVers to store their campers for the season. You’ll need to perform some maintenance tasks, though, to make sure that the RV is ready to go so it doesn’t fall into disrepair. Below, we cover key steps in preparing your RV for winter storage.

Clean Your RV
One of the most important things for ensuring your RV’s health over the winter is to make sure it’s clean. This will prevent dirt and grime from building up and keep it looking fresh for when you’re ready to use it again.
Clean every room, surface, and floor, and wash the exterior. Remember not to use any harsh chemicals on your delicate RV materials!
Inspect Your RV
Cleaning your RV also provides an opportunity to inspect your camper from top to bottom as you scrub. Use the opportunity to see if there are any outstanding maintenance issues or damage that might need a professional before it can be stored.
Protect Your Tires
Your RV is, no surprise, very heavy. If you leave your RV’s entire weight on one part of the tires for months on end, you could damage them or wear them down faster in one spot, creating a weak point. There are two ways to prevent this.
Move your RV slightly once a month. Make sure it adds up to at least half a tire rotation to relieve the pressure on the spot it’s been resting on.
Drive your RV up onto blocks to lift the tires off the ground entirely, removing all pressure for the duration of the winter.
Either approach works, it just depends on what works best for you.
